Pinched chalice
A chalice with a soft geometric character, pinched from one piece of dark stoneware clay and glazed in matte white. As with all my pinched work, each shape created is a wonderful surprise - without aiming at a certain shape, the clay's potential gradually reveals itself as it is being touched and pressed. This makes not just the vessel but even the shape one of a kind, with no guarantee that it will ever reoccur.
I find that pinched vessels fit wonderfully next to paintings, beloved textiles and generally in your personally important spots of your home. They bring a handmade quality of close attention, and a testimony for the time spent making them, in repeated rhythmic touch.
